This thread is going to be for announcements about fan factions.

Ben and I will have some of those announcements in the upcoming days, so check back here.

The different fan factions are:

(a) The Stephonians
(b) The Siddites
(c) The Lilnari (singular: A Lilnarus)
(d) The Yorksters
(e) The Jamists
(f) The Aoristocrats
(g) O

We will have fun surprises for those factions in good time.

Does this expanded list of factions mean that the other characters will also become actively involved parties in the grocery struggle?

Well, the central conflict is between Sid and Stephen, but each of the other characters has a role to play in it. Declaring yourself to be a Yorkster is symbolic of aligning yourself with his interests.

Imagine we introduce a character named "Tungsten McFriendly" who -- man, every time I think of an example of a role he could play, it turns out I want to save it for later use. So I guess no examples.

Let me put it this way, each character has a role to play in the grocery struggle, and a motivation for why they participate. Declaring yourself a member of faction X is an ideological step to support that character's point of view on the issue.

My point is this; if the comic was about world war two and each character was a country, you could join the Swiss faction and be avowedly neutral or whatever, and that doesn't mean Switzerland is going to become actively involved, unless you count avowed neutrality as active involvement.

And, for your respective pleasures, here are images you can add to your sig indicating affiliation. Each image has the group name and a rank. There are five ranks for each group. You can become rank one of any group merely by stating in this thread that you are joining that faction. Then, as time goes on, we will tell you how to advance through the ranks. Also, each group will have a leader-rank, (for instance, Obdormio is leader of the Stephonians, with the rank "Stephonian Prime". His enthusiasm for the comic was at the heart of being awarded that rank. Other rank-leaders will be awarded at ben and my own discretion.

You will notice that each faction has a different name for its initial rank, this is true of all ranks for all factions. They are in fact themed, based on what Ben and I felt were appropriate to the characters. Feel free to speculate/discuss the themes, but, perhaps in a different thread, as this one is primarily for announcements, questions, and declarations of affiliation.

Also, to preemptively answer a question, if you are a faction leader, you may, if you wish, earn your way through the ranks as well, but do not need to. We do hope that faction leaders will be at least somewhat active on the boards, but there is no requirement of X posts per unit time.

2nd Also, if there are competitions on these f-orums (like trivia contests or the like), it would be awesome if factions were used as the basis for teams.

Oh yeah, one last thing. While obviously inter-faction politics will change over time based on group dynamics, in order to spur some inter-faction politics along, Siddites are obviously diametrically opposed to Stephonians, though this is not necessarily a hostile relationship. It is a rivalry to be sure, but perhaps not a bitter rivalry as much as the kind where you respect and like your opponent, while still focusing all of your energies on making them fail. The Lilnari and the Jamists have friendlier terms and closer ties than most other groups do to each other, but may or may not have the most closely aligned interests in the central matter.

So, feel free to start factioning off. And if, for example, you feel like the whole grocery debate is stupid, rather than not factioning, consider if there might be a faction with that precise attitude.

I will have to review the comic in detail, and then carefully consider, over the span of several days, which faction would be the best fit for my person and my personality.

This is, of course, a very important decision. I would not wish to take it lightly.

I'm posting here to reaffirm my allegiance to all that is Sid. As evidenced by the latest strip, Sid clearly has the upper hand on Stephen. Ain't no foolin Sid! He seems to have inherited Professor Plum's analytical logic skills. And wardrobe.

By the way, I'm the one who created the homage comic.

For any given faction, it is the case that it's distinct from every other faction. That's how "other" works.

I hereby declare myself "O". I have so much faith in the "O" way of life, that I need not even know anything about it beforehand.

I very much look forward to learning about what my position is in the Great Grocery Campaign.

I'm loving the strip, but I'm thinking I need to know more about the characters and their personalities before I place myself staunchly behind one...

you need to register an account in order for that decision to be reflected on the boards. You can self-identify as O without one though.

I declare that my nameless faction, that is distinct from all other factions mentioned, most closely associates itself with Omicron. But, my faction is in fact distinct from Omicron's official faction. As for what Posiduck has said, I am not a Yorkster, and never will be a Yorkster.

I am sorry for not treating your affiliation with the proper respect, you are not a yorky mc yorkster, you are a Yorkster Pupil, and should be called such, not diminuitives.

If you continue defame me, I shall resort to withholding my support for this webcomic. If you do not wish that to happen, please acknowledge that you recognize me as a member of a faction distinct from factions directly alligned with any character.

Hey, let's calm down. keep a from space head, and not go making threats and whatnot. You can be in whatever faction you want, even made up ones.

I sense a certian degree of disdain in your words. Very well, I shall create my own photocomic to compete with yours. As soon as my comic has successfully supplanted yours, we will see who is laughing then.
