This is a thread for listing good songs.

I should probably have a song ready, but I don't, see, that's why I made the thread.

What's a good song?

I did a jazz arrangement of this with a band I'm in. It was pretty awesome.

Ushanka, I believe you're thinking of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, which I have not heard in far too long (and I don't believe I've ever heard the Bowie-narrated one). Prokofiev's Cello Sonata is also amazing, especially the first movement.

Anyway, just a few from me for now:
Rachmaninoff--4th Moment Musical (e minor), 2nd piano concerto (1st and 2nd movements are the best), 3rd piano concerto (probably the hardest piano piece ever), Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini (the 18th variation is the famous one, but the whole thing is great), Cello Sonata (esp. 2nd and 3rd movements); I guess I'll stop there for now
Arvo Part--stuff for strings or choir. I don't really know any particular songs, but this guy is awesome.
Alan Hovhaness--Concerto #7 for Orchestra
Tchaikovsky--5th Symphony, 1st Piano Concerto (he may have only written one)
Grieg--Piano Concerto in a minor
Chopin--"Winter Wind" etude
Debussy--Sarabande (from Suite for the Piano), String Quartet
Ravel--Pavane for a Dead Princess (piano or orchestral version)
Holst--The Planets, esp. Jupiter and Mars (he thought they overshadowed his other works far too much, but they're still awesome), St. Paul's Suite

Okay, now for some non-classical stuff:

Apocalyptica (of course)--anything, really (for the most part, the same goes for all these composers and artists), but for now, I'll say "Conclusion" and, um, "Somewhere Around Nothing." Also "Hope" (both versions) and "Bittersweet."
Dave Brubeck--Take Five (meh, enough w/ the whole "songs go in quotes" thing)
Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers--ETA, Free For All
The Hush Sound--Lighthouse, Dark Congregation, other songs I can't remember the names of
Led Zeppelin--No Quarter
Jimi Hendrix--1983, All Along the Watchtower
Dream Theater--Octavarium (some bits of this are kind of stupid, but most of it is really good)
Pink Floyd--hmm, wonder where Dream Theater got about 70% of their musical inspiration? Anyway, High Hopes is awesome, Welcome to the Machine (or whatever it's called) is very overplayed but very good, Run Like Hell, Comfortably Numb, and Sorrow
Evanescence--I Disappear is probably the only song name I can think of, but I like these guys (and gal) probably more than they deserve, to be honest
Coldplay--Clocks, Speed of Sound (stupid lyrics, but whatever, it's nice to listen to)
Opeth--Harvest (probably the only Opeth song I've heard that I really like)
Regina Spektor--Samson (I don't know if I spelled Spektor right, but so what. Also I'm not entirely sure that she's the one who sang Samson or if that was someone else...)
U2--Drowning Man, New Year's Day, Exit
Metallica--Sanitarium

I recommend looking up all of these songs and artists/composers on pandora.com.

Wow, I'm not going to have time to listen to all of these... well, I listened to the first one on Lewis's first list, and I like it.

Yes, you're right. I was distracted by the fact that the rest of the album is comprised of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite. That is not narrated by David Bowie.

Ok, I listened to a few more songs that "caught my eye," such as "Lighthouse" by "The Hush Sound."

I'm going to list a bunch of video game remixes that I like. Remember that I have not actually played most of these games so I don't enjoy the songs for the nostalgia, but I am really into prog rock/techno/instrumental pieces, which is what almost all video game remixes are.

I'll include URLs when I can for easy reference.
