This is a good place to ask me or Ben questions about the strip.

You're not allowed to ask questions unless you want me to have univocal authority over the answers.

Why is Stephen a rook? Why not a knight or bishop?

Given an empty chessboard, any square is at most two rook's moves away from any other square. With a knight, the maximum is five, and half the squares are entirely unreachable for a bishop.

Correction: the maximum for a knight is six. If the knight starts in the lower left corner, the number of moves to reach each square are as follows:
Code:
54545456
43434545
34343454
23234345
32323434
21432345
34123434
03232345

Bishop might have been a possibility. knight was out because knights generally have too many distinguishing features, which make it really hard not to look at it like a horse.

As to why not a pawn or bishop or what have you, I looked back at the conversation I had with Ben when we first started talking about doing this, and it looks like I said "rook" when listing possible pieces and it stuck. Which isn't to say it was just happenstance or what have you. Ben took pictures of the various possible gamepieces we had considered, and we selected ones that we liked the look of. So, bishop never came up, but that's in part because we liked the look of the rook.

In that case, why is it called "Terror Island"? Either one of you can answer.

Rearrange the letters in "Terror Island," and you'll find out.

"larder intros"? "larder is torn"?

A bit of a reach, but they at least deal with food supply.

How far ahead do you two plan out storylines? How many storylines do you already have planned out?

We've planned out the rest of the demon storyline, and we have ideas for some future plots, but there are gaps in between that will need to be filled.

I think Ben is trying to lead us on, but I'm still making anagrams for Terror Island.

"It's an error?" That's missing the d. It's and error?
"Storer nadir?" Maybe it has something to do with a store.
"Errand or slit?"

There's no "l" in that.

It almost made sense.

I don't think the word anagram is supposed to be in there. Besides, Projectyl is working on it; he's the new Anagrammist of the Jamists.

No, that was just an anagrammatic statement about the difficulty (and possible futility) of finding the "correct" anagram for Terror Island.
