Happy Flag Day!

I shall celebrate by not desecrating any flags.

Hmm, have I missed out on this flag day thing? I don't think I did anything flag-related on the day this topic was created. And, whilst I didn't desecrate any flags, it is very rare for me to desecrate flags anyway (I can't remember any occasions on which I have done so, but I might have at some point when I was very young).

I desecrated a flag recently. I made a Japanese flag out of paper when I was about eight (for a primary/grade school assembly wherein we each had to be a country; I ended up as South Korea, but hey ho), and I found it again in the course of tidying my room, so I had to take off the wooden stick it was attached to and then put it in the recycling.

I assume putting a flag in the recycling counts as desecrating it.

You might be able to pass that as retiring the flag, especially since it sounds like it touched the ground. Though that rule might not apply to non-U.S. flags.

If I get a visit from the Japanese Flag Desecration-Or-Possibly-Retirement Committee, I'll ask you to put in a good word.
