Forum has been quiet lately. Are any of our fans still alive?

I know I'm not.

Incidentally, you really missed a choice Yorkitunity to use the word "smote" today. It's a great word, and doesn't get used enough.

I typically post in response to new stuff rather than starting my own threads or responding to old threads.

But I am very much alive.

I'm still alive! Me! Everyone's favorite!

Since this is the Internet, shouldn't someone have made a Portal reference by now?

I thought MOAR was just a nickname for somebody whom they wanted to LURK.

No, I'm dead. Sorry. Also I have a fear about starting topics since the first time I tried in XKCD... There was already a thread like it buried in another subforum, and it got locked and I was humiliated by a mod... But things are nicer here.

That's terrible. You should have been excused if it was more than a page or so deep.

Well not really, but I had it in general being a newbie and it should have gone in music. And when I say humiliated, it's kind of a massive hyperbole. BUT STILL THE PSYCHOLOGICAL SCARS REMAIN!

Because I love you guys in a friendly way I have found the old posts. I have changed! I promise!

EDIT: Oh cool the URL looks broken but still works!

Wow, how does that happen? Apparently I still do not fully understand the ways of the mysterious Filter.

I assume that the software has different stages of manipulating the text input.

The first stage converts from some of the abbreviated ways of doing things to a standardized format.

So it changes

|url|http://whatever.com|/url|

to

|url=http://whatever.com|http://whatever.com|/url|

then the filters are applied to the text that is not being interpreted as markup, i.e. just the text "http://whatever.com".

there are other ways it might be doing it, i suppose, but that one would make sense and explain the behavior.

I remember when I got my wisdom teeth removed. I was put under anasthetic and then when I got home I watched several episodes of Journeyman.

I'm back... after having broken my ankle in a social dance class >.<

It's still pretty broken, though. Really, I was "gone" because I installed a new operating system and so started with a clean slate (usually I keep my browser open with all the pages I check) and forgot to bring these forums up as one of my always open pages when I was going through and figuring out what pages I usually keep open.

Things have changed around here...

Actually it was a toe. My wisdom teeth were surgically dehisced with minimal inconvenience many moons ago.

Was it a Linux-based OS? I'm trying to get one but I don't know if I can install it from my flash drive instead of a CD.

Yeah, it's Ubuntu. I also installed Windows Server 2003 (because I got it for free) which, by the way, is not a very good laptop OS. Who knew? I'm probably going to go back to XP or maybe Vista for my windows partition. I would just go without it, but unfortunately I need to run things like Visual Studio (to grade things) and Microsoft Streets and Trips (for crazy driving adventures) which I can't run on Linux. I've been having a few issues with Ubuntu as well, but I think that was more or less my fault, since I got 7.10 to begin with and then did a somewhat botched upgrade to 8.04 when it was released. It's pretty likely that I'll just do a fresh install sometime when I've got a little time on my hands, since there are a few bugs that are really bothering me, mostly concerning hibernation (and the fact that it sometimes randomly crashes when I bring it back from being hibernated).

As for using a flash drive, I don't know, I used a CD which I burned from the iso (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download). Why can't you use a CD?

All of my CDs are non-rewriteable, and they have already been written upon. And, I don't want to go out and buy new ones, because I'll be home after two weeks and then I can use my parents'.
