I'd like to change my vote from the Triad to Bartleby.

[edited poll to reflect the official designators of these potential characters.]

You don't have to change your vote. I voted for Bartleby with both of my accounts.

Obviously, Bartleby has won.

Does no one else think the reporter is going to be Ally Cs? (If she doens't turn out to be a CS major, anyway.)

Ooh, you're probably right! ...or Stephen is lying about the reporter and just wants Sid to buy potatoes. Nah, you're probably right.

Stephen wants Stephen to buy potatoes? That's pretty surprising.

Hey, Lewis, are we going to see any other characters any time soon? Like, Lord Terror, perhaps?

You can always see new characters in your mind's eye.

Also, maybe. But the cast is pretty large at present, so I'm not sure that we are rushing to expand it.

I'm not sure adding Lord Terror to the cast would be a good idea. Remember how Sluggy Freelance, Superosity, El Goonish Shive, Bigger Than Cheeses, and FOMS all jumped the shark when they gave in-story explanations of their ridiculous titles?

I don't think that would explain the title at all.

Lord Terror is the King of Terror Island.

So, eventually someone might ask him about his kingdom, and that would cause problems in the strip.

It's actually a very Godelian problem, since it is ok to use "Terror Island" from a metalanguage outside the strip, but using it in the strip would cause problems.

I suppose you're right.. but, alternatively, whenever we get close to hearing the boundaries/properties of Lord Terror's domain, he could just say "Silence!" or avoid it some other way, like Sid and Stephen somehow escape purchasing groceries. It could be a running joke that way.

Two characters with bizarrely powerful aversions to ordinary activities seems sufficient for the strip.

Well, he doesn't have to have an aversion. It could be happenstance- like, when LT starts to explain the significance of Terror Island, a rock could crush him or something.

Ben, at what point are you saying FOMS jumped the shark?

EDIT: Because if you're referring to the line about why the Talonless is called the Talonless, that was one of my favorite lines in the whole strip.

Also, at first I was worried about the inclusion of any, let alone all, of the new characters, but I've been quite pleased with the results so far. Kudos.

At the point where I totally gave away why it was called FOMS.

That...definitely didn't ruin the strip for me.

Also I can't actually remember why it was called FOMS. Was that the name of the secret organization? Why was the secret organization called FOMS?

It's in there somewhere. I don't want to jump the shark again by explaining it here.

It actually isn't. I checked.

Ergo FOMS has not jumped the shark, and you quit too early.

(Not to imply that one should only stop something after jumping the shark--the "quitting too early" bit is my own analysis, not a logical conclusion from the first part of the sentence.)
