1. Optics was a science well before the early modern period. See Nimrud lenses in ancient Egypt, Euclidean (geometric) optics, born out of the original geometry that we did in our minds before we did calculus in our minds, etc. Fact: Ptolemy developed the bonkers awesome theory that rays were emitted out of our eyes and that was how we saw things. Like Superman, or whoever it was that has laser vision. Ancient Islamic optics, developed especially by Al-Kindi and Alhacen, started to reverse the ray directionality and get pretty geometrically sophisticated. Optics and mechanics were the two mixed mathematical sciences Aristotle talked about most in the posterior analytics.

2. The word for "bouncy coefficient" is "coefficient of restitution."

I think this can officially be the thread for RequestCast Errata.

We're going to do it wikipedia style, which means:
1) All errata content is provided by you, the readers.
2) Lots of important information will be missing from the thread.
3) The odds of something being noted are much higher if it is Pokémon trivia or details about an episode of Star Trek Voyager.

Mangez Frais!
