A friend of mine recommended Constellation Games to me. As an aspiring critic myself I fancy reading it, and your recommendation helps also, but the fact that the first friend is a big fan of Cory Doctorow too puts me off a little.

I am going to try and persuade a friend to stage Goat Plague with me after finals, although I am also going to try and persuade a friend to stage The Dumb Waiter with me after finals, as well as playing every boardgame ever, so I don't know it'll necessarily happen. If so, I'll try to film it, unless I can't or don't or forget.

I did genuinely have to pause the podcast and lie down laughing for a bit at the tooth-brushing segment. Especially the "I thought it would intimidate you".

I like how the relevant okcupid profiles are NOT in the relevant links section of lewis's post.

Also, I'm trying to find the profiles but it turns out I might have to actually make a okcupid profile to find them. So far, I'm choosing a username and the names suggested to me have been:

chenjasaurus
chenj_taco
chenjthecat
chenj-o-matic
chenjfromspace

which are far, far better than every other site that makes these kind of suggestions. I think I'll use okCupid to find names if I ever need that service. I also think I'm going to go as "chenjasaurus" from now on.

Apparently I've already made an account, and I'm a "51% Friend 12% Enemy" match with Fake Lewis, and "21% Friend 0% Enemy" match with fake Ben. Seems legit.

This podcast managed to be good without being interesting, achieving what was probably the (failed) goal of Saved by the Bell: It makes you wish you were better acquainted, personally acquainted, with the characters involved, and creates a longing for the type of friendship you observe and feel incapable of achieving (even though we likely achieve such relationships frequently and simply fail to recognize them when we do).

Vincent, it would help me out a great deal if you could use smileys or some other form of labeling to indicate whether your comments are complimentary or critical.

I think achieving the failed goal of Saved by the Bell is a good thing.

I think it's a good thing, though I'm not sure that I intended it as either complimentary or critical. I could imagine regarding the completion of Saved by the Bell's failed mission as a contemptible accomplishment, or at least a questionable one. The explanation of that remark seems purely laudatory, however.

"Good but not interesting" (to paraphrase) seems inherently both critical and complimentary, though which side wins out depends on whether one prefers what is good or what is interesting.

Is there a smiley that communicates that? Just imagine the face of Sean Connery in Finding Forrester, looking vaguely disapproving and distant, then meeting your gaze and raising his chin slightly, smiling with one corner of his mouth. He doesn't say, "You're the man now, Dog," because you're not urban black kids; but he doesn't make any attempt to patronize you according to your particular social/ethnic background either. He just nods. He continues nodding and smiling until you walk away, embarrassed.

I thought it was interesting, to the point where I was thinking that the Earth is indeed bigger than the Sun in importance to humans.

Also, I heard that I could "easily" find Lewis's salary information, but the only salary information I could find on assistant professors at University of Buffalo was that it "varies."

It's not very useful information, though. I imagine most assistant professors don't make the same amount without seeing that information.

I caught a joke this time where Lewis mentioned that both Ben and Lewis had the persona of "The Boy Next Door," and Ben mentioned that he couldn't think of the female analog of that persona.

So, during the episode Ben says "if people are still listening to this in 2015" and I am listening to it in 2015. Man I feel old.

Did I really pick 2015 as an example of a year that's far in the future? That's crazy. I should have picked some distant sci-fi one, like 2016.
