I'm posting this thread because Lewis is in a Scottish airplane right now.

I think the airplane was Dutch. Or whatever KLM is.

Unless this is one of those longstanding "octopi" frauds, "Scylla" is not pronounced with a hard C. Please re-record this episode accordingly.

It's pronounced "ostopi"?

I believe that Ben and Lewis were pronouncing it as the Greeks would, and as such it is pronounced with a hard C. Of course, they're mangling their vowel pronunciation, but that's a separate issue.

It's pronounced octopodes.

No, it's properly pronounced "cherry badass."

The "'octupi' fraud" I was referencing was the commonly promoted belief that "octupi" is the proper plural of "octupus," such that people who use the correct plural form ("octopuses," or "octopodes" if you're being a wiseass) are in turn often "corrected" by those who believe the correct plural is "octupi." I was afraid that I might be doing the same thing by correcting your pronunciation of "Scylla," since I had always heard it pronounced without a hard C, and the sources I quickly checked indicated it was pronounced as such, but you guys generally seem better informed about ancient Greek bullshit than I.

I sail between slothful ignorance and grammar Nazism, just like the ancient traveler facing Silly on one side and Cherry Badass on the other.

Re-reading Terror Island. Well, I lost track at some point around #200. So I guess this is as good a time as any to ask what the Gravity's Rainbow joke in #11 would've been.

It's mentioned in one of the later comic annotations. I think I remember it but I think you'd prefer to find out for yourself, now that you know doing so will be a natural consequence of you continuing to read the archives.

But if we can take it as read that I'm reading the archives, you don't actually need me to read them.

edit: found it.

The joke was about it needing a "Pynchon of salt".

regarding questions of pronunciation: I am okay with pronouncing those words wrong.

Now we just need to find a way to turn that to our advantage. "A podcast from the authors of at least one joke that later appeared on 30 rock (ps: we're pretty sure none of the 30 rock writers read our comic, but we got there first---ok, maybe not first, it is possible that joke was around before we got to it, but we beat 30 rock there, damnit!)"

Okay, now I am going to say "octopodes" as much as possible. Such a cool word.

Octopodes.

Thanks for recording this podcast. I enjoyed listening to it. I earnestly believe that Terror Island is one of the greatest underappreciated treasures of the internet, though I think it's good that it ended when it did. Too many webcomics continue long after they stop being good.

The only factual error I noticed in here was that Stephen is in fact played by the white king's rook, as noted on the cast page.

Ben and I wanted to have one of those rare webcomics that ended shortly after it stopped being good.
