Personally I think you should make it so that a person has to make a reply to a post before they can start a topic. That way, most of the spams here, which come from bots, would no longer be posted.

That would block nearly all of the spam we've been getting, but it would also obstruct legitimate threads like this one. Deleting the spam posts is getting pretty boring, so I'll probably do that anyway unless someone comes up with another idea in the next couple days.

Considering that the spam isn't stopping, I suggest you implement that plan. I have no wish to watch porn videos with Britney Spears and Jennfer Lopez Photoshopped in, which seems to be the latest undertaking of the spambots.

So has anybody else come up with an idea? Even I'm finding it annoying now.

edit: And I'm not the one who has to clean up after.

Borrow some open-source code and make your own forum on your own server? I'm sure someone out there can help you with that.

Make everybody moderators so they can all delete it. That way only one person ever sees each spam post.

There have been a few of the "post a dozen variations of the same spam across various subforums" spambots lately, which are pretty annoying to clean up after.

One forum I read has a variant on the CAPTCHA system, where people who want to register have to type the word in the image, followed by a capital Q. That's easy for humans, but the standard CAPTCHA automation can't handle it. I should look into finding out how to modify phpBB to do that.

Heh heh. Annoying filters at work again (EDIT) from their position in space.
And yeah, that's probably a nice plan.

That filter's cool, not annoying.

Well, at least it would be worse. This forum could end up with spambots that spam with images instead of just links. That would be scary.

Oh the irony.

I should really stop making this sort of post. When the spams are deleted, these make no sense.

At least the spammers haven't noticed frost_maze's suggestion for making their spam more effective yet... although it seems they have noticed william's.

Confused me until I remembered the filter.
