I've moved this site over to a version of phpBB that isn't several years out of date. Your old information should all have carried over, but if you notice anything missing, let me know so I can see about restoring it from the backups.

This new version has more options to deal with than the old one, so there's probably going to be a lot of customization going on behind the scenes in the next few days. Rest assured, that big phpBB logo in the top left will eventually be replaced with a tasteful TimeFan logo.

Let me know if you have any questions or complaints.

I think it would be better without borders around the posts.

Also, I actually, actually, really do plan on making the logo once I get out of school, which is in about two weeks.

In other news, Chinese Democracy will be released Any Day Now(tm).

Does this version feature proper tracking of posts' read/unread status?

Then what does it do, besides look pretty?

I actually kind of like the old one better, now that I think about it. Things were a lot closer together so I didn't have to scroll like hell to read a page of posts.

Maybe that's just the borders, though, giving the illusion that things are further apart.

Also, Lewis's doesn't appear colored when I see it at the bottom of the page (the place that denotes that he's logged in.) You should be able to color the names of regular moderators.

Yeah, this theme will need some tightening up. I bet if I just hacked bits out of it for a few days, I could get a nice minimalist look going.

Some interesting new features I've noticed so far:
  • Notifications if the topic got new messages while you were typing your post.
  • Birthday support (go to your user control panel to set this)
  • Friend and foe lists (also in the user control panel, I think)
  • Nicer organization for the administrator options. That'll take a little while to relearn, but it looks like it will be worth it.
  • BBCode markup for lists. Has that always been a thing, and I just didn't know it?

From what I've seen so far, it does seem to handle the tracking of read/unread posts better.

I haven't done anything crazy like actually test stuff properly, but previously opening a thread in a new tab wouldn't always register it as read properly in the original tab, but now it does. I am happy that it seems to be working a lot better than before.

On the whole I'm rather pleased with the upgrade, and the new layout looks nice. Not that I can really remember what the old layout looked like so I guess I can't compare them very well...

You can change the board style in your user preferences if you want.

The current default is subsilver2, but there's also some new thing called prosilver. The upgrade made that the default at first, but I changed that because it was too new and frightening. People might prefer it, though.

Eventually I hope I'll get around to making a customized board style. That probably won't be soon.

I'm crossing my fingers for an actual photograph of a guy in some sort of sports stadium cheering with his shirt off and like a clock or maybe an hourglass painted on his chest.

That's a damn good idea.

Ben, how come I can't delete any of my posts in the PCaRB section?

Is the deletion behavior there different from the other sections?

It shouldn't be.

Well, I can delete my posts in the Terror Island part of the timefan but not the PCaRB, nor here.

I think the way it should be working is that you can delete a post only if it's the last one in a thread.

This isn't something I can directly test at the moment, since I'm able to delete any post in the forum, whether it's mine or not.
