I just found out about the Wikiclock, an online clock powered by a wiki process. The way it works is that visitors are encouraged to update the page with the current time. If people do so often enough, the clock will always be accurate!

According to the History of the main page, the last time anyone updated the time was 6 days ago.

Obviously, thew Wikiclock is a success, but the Human Race is a failure.

Ben,

I sent Dennis a link to this wikiclock and he said something like, "Ben must be upset that he didn't think of this himself."

The Wikiclock just needs more people monitoring the page, and it will become more accurate. It scales perfectly! Our Internet just isn't good enough for it yet.

The user interface is too complicated. That's why nobody's updating.

It would be neat if they had an image of a clock, with hands you could drag around to set the time.

i thought you would oppose that on principle of it not working well with text based web browsers.

what if it was an ascii art clock?

It would take some of the guesswork out if they would tell you what time it is, so you would know what to type in, rather than having to work it out for yourself.

They do tell you what time it is. Just not very accurately.
