Narrow it down to maybe one album at a time, and I will take you seriously. :dadow:

Am I really supposed to be posting in this thread for the explicit purpose of making Unwinder hate music? Or perhaps this is just a record recommendation thread of awesome bands. I shall post lists for both, I should think.

Possibly Hate
"Zulutime" by Caspar Brotzmann & Page Hamilton
"Merzbox" by Merzbow (50 albums of total noise. I tried to endure the whole thing once. I got 6 albums in before I wanted to kill myself)
"Burned Mind" by Wolf Eyes (I actually like this record quite a bit, but can see how a lot of people hate it.)
"Crunk Rock" by Lil Jon

Enjoy?
"Latin" by Holy Fuck (Pretty good electronic music as played by a bunch of live musicians.)
"Fantastic Planet" by Failure (Poppy, well produced heavy alt rock from the early 90s. "Smoking Umbrellas" is a personal favourite.)
"King of Jeans" by Pissed Jeans (I like to get drunk and play "False Jesii Pt. 2" over and over again.)
"Happy Hour" by King Missile
"Passover" by The Black Angels
"The For Carnation" by The For Carnation (Melancholyish, I like to listen to this while I drift off to sleep.)
"Spiderland" by Slint (P. sure Steve Albini has said this is the best record ever written. It's p. good IMO)

Dunno. I'm tired. I could come up with more but I'm tired. So tired.

Also: Man, it is very surprising how many bands/albums have the word "fuck" in them these days.

Since we are on the discussion of Worst Music Evar I feel it behooves me to warn you of the three worst songs ever put to tape. I say "put to tape", but as we all know, that tape is actually computations within the black box you are currently reading these words upon. Still, tape or no tape, I have spent much of my life determining the worst of the worst, and I feel confident with my list, though I am more than happy to debate each song's (lack of) merit should you disagree. :shadow:

Unfortunately, I am tired so I don't really feel like writing out why each particular song is so terrible. Just take my word for it: these are three of the worst songs I have ever heard.

#3: "My Humps" by The Black Eyed Peas
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEe_eraFWWs

#2: "Bree Bree" by Brokencyde
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FPZTwqikaw

#1: "New Noise" by Crazy Town
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urezv-d82hE

Oh. In that case, I will give you one recommendation from each list. How about "Burned Mind" by Wolf Eyes and "Latin" by Holy Fuck? If you choose only one of those, then I vote for the Holy Fuck record.

I guess this has probably always been going on, and I just didn't know it, because nobody told me about them when I was a kid.

After you listen to that, listen to the Alanis Morissette cover.

It was pretty good.

For the first minute or so, I thought that it was going to be annoying, but it turned out to not be very annoying. :wii:

I don't think I liked the guy's voice very much, which is usually a dealbreaker

But he barely did any singing.

First impression is that I might listen to it again.

There is no way that these are worse than Buckcherry's "Crazy dog".

Don't know why this would be picked as an album that's hard to like
It's pretty "normal"
I like that guy's first album better though, Gulag Orkestar or whatever

Made it through the first song. If the worst this has to offer is an extended fart sound solo, I can do this.

"Staight to the Himalaya
straight to himmlraya
where the frog fish squirrel
the frog fish squirm
in labyrinths with the submarkets
yeahahahahhhh
and get some mgdin media wastes"

I am really having a hard time discerning whether I am liking this because I have been challenged or because I just like this. But I don't think I'm joking when I say that it's great.

I am just not sure.

I guess this is outsider art?

The classiness that this term brings to it reassures me as I start a song called Oil Platform Squid Fondling Sluts Having A Coffee Break.

Okay! I have completed it! I don't know if I was in just the right mood or the challenge of it all got to my head but I now have an official final opinion of "pretty good!" for it.

it is important for me to note that Beirut is awesome.

I like this song a lot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hq2s0AhdFE4

Miles is right that Gulag Orchester is the bestest album of his.

Oh BTW to clarify, this thread was supposed to be music that is hard to listen to at first but then is less hard.

I guess Beirut is easier than some, but in my experience when I play it for people they find it uncomfortable at first. Also, I like March of the Zapotec better guys!

Alden, Is it odd that I don't find any of your choices to be that difficult? I mean, maybe it's just me, but pretty much liked all of those on first listen.

That said, I'm having a hard time thinking about records that I've actively changed my mind about. I think Glassjaw's "Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence" would be one of those records. Then again, I've kind of changed my mind about that one again and now find it kind of mediocre. I don't know. Some of my favourite records, I've just latched onto at first listen, like Charles Mingus' "The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady".

Oh, I did think of a record you might not be into but is pretty good, Unwinder. "Never Stop" by The Bad Plus - so I guess I'm suggesting maybe you listen to it. I dunno.

No, I was obviously too drunk at the time. If anything, most of those fall into the "hard to listen to because they are kind of cheeseball" category not the "this sound is technically music" category. But they are very listenable so could be instantly likeable.

OK so it's not hard to listen to but I hated hated hated HATED xx by The xx the first few times and then I listened to it again somehow and I fell in love with it.

I would mention Buy by James Chance and the Contortions too but that would be mentioning two :(
