As mentioned in Request Comics #88, I'm going to try to have a consistent schedule each month. This poll is for guessing how long I will be able to keep the resolution.

Also, you can suggest schedule ideas here. I'm leaning toward Monday/Wednesday/Friday for February right now.

Wow, people really are pessimistic, aren't they?

Do you have enough requests/new requests coming in fast enough to keep you going?

I have hundreds of unused requests on file. They aren't all ones I'd want to use, but there are more than enough good ones for a month of daily updates, even in the unlikely event that people stop sending in new ones.

That doesn't mean I don't want to see more requests coming in, of course. The more the better.

I hope you prove me wrong, but I think daily is a pretty ambitious target, unless you sneakily have a large buffer built up so you have most of the month done already ;)

Man, you sound like the Rock'em Sock'em Robots. Insane ambition can be a perfectly healthy part of life.

My buffer size is kind of hard to quantify. There are a bunch of partially finished comics with some combination of art and writing done, but I'm not going into this with any completely pre-made ones. The latest Werewolves strip was entirely done on the night it went up.

Well, I'm glad my persistent, bloody-minded checking-for-updates paid off. You were pretty close to being deleted from my favorites for inactivity, though.

I'm glad you stuck around! Hopefully the comic will be more reliable from now on.

Ben, you should do something math-related, like every prime numbered day, or every day in the fibonacci series.

In any case I'm glad you're keeping an update schedule.

Prime numbers sounds good. I won't do it next month, though, because I'd miss 29 that way. Also, gimmicky schedules seem like something to build up to over the course of the year.

I'm a long-time fan of the Fibonacci sequence, but having the wait between updates increase as the month progresses sounds bad for readers. I guess that's an issue with primes too.

Also, would that mean updating twice on the first? Because I'd rather save that sort of thing for the month where I update twice every day.

*month where I update twice every day may not be an actual month

I'd like to see you update Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, since most thrice-a-week comics update Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. That way we'd have 6 full days of comics.

That's what Darths and Droids does, except on Sundays.

How about for one month you roll a 30-sided die thirty times and use the days that come up, excluding repeats. Provided you own a thirty-sided die.

Or including repeats, if you're daring enough.

I've got a d30. Rolling it some number of times and counting the repeats as days with multiple updates sounds good in that it guarantees a good number of updates, except that what would probably happen is that I'd get to a day with three updates scheduled, wait until the last minute to start on them, and only finish one and a half before falling asleep.

I tested out what rolling a d30 twenty times would do. Keep in mind that this is for demonstration purposes only. If I decide to do a month of dice updates for real, I'll roll for them then.

16 14 9 10 7 4 5 30 19 7 24 2 14 14 18 9 16 3 21 20

So that's fifteen days that I'd update. The 7th, 9th, and 16th would be double updates, and the 14th would be a triple update. And there are two separate four-day runs of daily single updates.

I'm not really sure whether that was an argument for or against the idea.

One disadvantage of having done daily updates is that now going three days without updates seems like a long gap. Think of this month as a bit of a breather before I start boosting the rate back up in March.

So...I guess we all lose, since no one guessed March.

If you had asked me a few days ago whether being broken up with would cause me to miss an update, I would have said no. Turns out hypothetical past me would have been wrong.

I think what I'm going to do is update again on the 12th, and work in an extra strip sometime this month. Maybe that can be the one with the February contest results, since that would work best as being outside March's double-request theme.

Ah. Oh. Sorry to hear that.

I had thought it was my fault, somehow. I guess I'm not really happy to find out it wasn't. I mean, I would have been relieved to find out it wasn't me, if it had been for something... other than what it was. You know?

Yeah.

Don't worry, it was one of those "it's not Ravenswood, it's me" kind of things.
